Desperate times call for desperate measures. This holds true for all the healthcare professionals who are staring at a faceless enemy, with bare minimum infrastructure to tackle it effectively. While waiting for the PPE kits to arrive and aid us in protecting ourselves, my colleague Dr Nived, anaesthesia technician Nitheesha and I decided to do something about it today. I urge my anaesthetist friends to watch this video (filmed and shared with patient’s consent) and try to incorporate whatever is possible in their practice to minimise aerosol transmission from suspected COVID cases. We have used stuff that is not expensive and readily available in all operation theatres like covering sheets of 3 L saline bags (check your Urology and Ortho OTs!) and disposable plastic tray found in Spinal sets. If you find it useful, please feel free to share it with your friends and colleagues.
It is imperative that I thank our Head of the Department, Dr Shishir Chandrashekhar for inspiring us to think out of the box!
Disclaimer: THIS DEMO VIDEO IS NOT A DEMONSTRATION OF AIRWAY MANAGEMENT IN SUSPECTED COVID CASES. IT PRIMARILY AIMS TO HELP IN PROTECTION OF GROSS AEROSOL TRANSMISSION TO HEALTHCARE WORKERS AS WELL AS MACHINE & MONITOR.
