Have you done all of these? Tell us in the comments!
Temperatures are dropping, so if you haven’t transitioned your plants indoors, now is the time! And even if you have, you can always follow up with these preventative steps to banish winter pest concerns:
Check your plant for the visible signs of pests, making sure to look under leaves and in the nooks.
Here’s a quick guide to the most common ones:
• Fine Webbing= Spider Mites
• Raised brown bumps that can be removed= Scale
• White fuzzy clusters= Mealy Bugs
• Fine slivers that move when disturbed: Thrips
By replacing the top 2” of soil, you’re greatly reducing the likelihood of Fungus Gnats and other pests that breed and thrive on is surface-level of soil.
Spray your plant down on as high a pressure setting as your plant can tolerate, making sure to hit the undersides of leaves if possible! This will start you off right with clean foliage, as well as wash off any pests that may be hiding.
Mist your entire plant with Neem Oil, which helps treat and prevent pests on your plants. Wipe down the foliage, as Neem Oil can make leaves extra sensitive to sunlight. Don’t forget to spray the soil as well!
