Serang City is an autonomous region resulting from division of Serang Regency. The mandate for the formation of Serang City began with Law Number 23 of 2000 concerning the Formation of the Province of Banten, which established Serang as the capital city for the newly formed province.Furthermore, this city was officially established through Law Number 32 of 2007 concerning the Establishment of the City of Serang in Banten Province, which was ratified on August 10, 2007. Etymologically, the name "strike" comes from Old Sundanese which means "officer's rice field" / "state rice field" which has now shifted to "rice field" in Sundanese.
