Though Marek Kondrat's performance in this film as a lonely, neurotic teacher full of regret won him Best Actor in the 2003 Polish Film Awards, there appear to be no high-quality English subtitles available for it anywhere on the web. Even the subtitles on the DVD release are written in translationese. I have redone them entirely in the hope that this classic film may find a wider audience.
