Argentina's conservative opposition party Cambiemos (Let's Change) candidate Mauricio Macri won in Sunday's presidential election, and he also pledged a "wonderful era" for the country.
Official results showed Macri garnered 53.3 percent of the votes and Daniel Scioli, candidate of the ruling party the Front for the Victory, got 46.7 percent, with 69 percent of the votes counted.
Though the final official outcome had yet to be announced, Scioli said that "the results show a definitive tendency" in favor of Macri. He also congratulated Macri on his success in the election.
"People have chosen anther road. I hope Macri can lead the country to gain greater achievements on this road," said Scioli.
Mauricio Macri also vowed to bring a new era to the country after the election.
"Today you turned the impossibility into reality with your votes, and you did what no one would believe before. On December 10 Argentina will start a wonderful era. Here and now, go! go !Argentina!" Macri told his supporters.
During the presidential election, the conservative Cambiemos Party criticized the governing ability of the ruling party and the country's development mode of state intervention, putting forward a series of measures to recover the economy, like opening the market, improving the country's investment environment and striving for methods that are supported by international financial institutes and investors.
Analysts think that after Macri takes office, he is to face the issue how to handle the economic pressure.
"I think currently the urgent need is to reform. Many problems accumulated during the term of President Cristina Fernandez didn't break out in the end, which will surface immediately after the new government takes over, and the most tricky issue is to handle the pressure the economy is facing," said Rosendo Fraga, director of the Argentina New Majority Research Center.
Macri's victory marks an end to 12 years of governance by the Front for the Victory, which came to power in 2003 under the presidency of Nestor Kirchner (2003-2007) and continued under his successor and wife Cristina Fernandez, whose second term ends this December.
