Iran "Dramatically" Raising Near Weapons-Grade Uranium Stockpile: UN Watchdog | Subscribe to Firstpost
Iran is "dramatically" increasing its stockpile of near weapons-grade uranium, according to International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Rafael Grossi. Speaking at the Manama Dialogue security conference in Bahrain, Grossi said that Iran is accelerating uranium enrichment to 60% purity, approaching the 90% threshold required for weapons-grade material. Later, an IAEA statement confirmed that Iran has started feeding two cascades of advanced IR-6 centrifuges with uranium enriched up to 20% at its underground Fordo facility, significantly boosting production rates. Concurrently, Iran successfully launched its Simorgh rocket from the Imam Khomeini Spaceport, deploying a 300-kilogram (660-pound) payload that included the Fakhr-1 military satellite and an orbital propulsion system. This marks the heaviest payload for Iran’s space program and the first instance of its civilian space program carrying a military payload.
