Before Adjusting the Valve Clearance,the piston should be at Top Dead centre so that both the tappet should be free for adjustment. Always adjust the Valve Clearance in cold state. )
Every object tends to expand with the increase in temperature and hence the valve of your Motorcycle/Scooter and cars.So it is very very important to provide a small clearance for the expansion of valves.Every Vehicle has its own clearance value for Input and exhaust valve(Exhaust valve value is greater than input valve).There are many drawback of having low or high valve clearance. If clearance is high,there will be irritating tappet noise from the Engine on the other hand if the valve clearance is low then it will lead to leakage from valves. so it's always best to adjust the valve clearance by using the feeler gauge. Once the valve clearance is adjusted accurately then there will be no tappet noise .
