So I haven't given an update about my Thule Tepui Autana 3 person tent with Annex and that's because, well, I sold the dang thing! There were a handful of reasons why I sold this rooftop tent and I dig into them in this video.
The Biggest Cons:
Time consuming to set up and breakdown
Awkward getting in and out for night time bathroom breaks
Horrible to put away when cold and wet
Zippers constantly breaking
Those were the biggest reasons why I sold the Thule Tepui Autana 3. My wife is a photographer and that means we are always leaving camp early in the morning and we wanted something that required minimal work to break down. This tent is not that.
We replaced the Tepui Autana 3 with a Softopper and that has been really great. I'll do a review of the Softopper soon to show you what it's all about.
So, is a rooftop tent right for you? What kind of rooftop tent should you buy?Well, I can't tell you, but I think you should ask yourself some questions. What are your main priorities when camping or overloading? Do you need comfort above all else? Do you hang around camp most of the time or do you like to wander? Do you want things to be as easy as possible?
I'd have to steer you towards a clamshell design rooftop tent. These hard sided rooftop tents seem to be the way to go due to their ease of use. They're more expensive but if it's going to get you out camping more it might just be worth it.
