Aquamarine. The first written record of this stone appears in a work by Pliny the Elder from Ancient Rome dating back to the 1st century AD. It was given its contemporary name in the 1600s, its “career” at the time being a material used to make lenses for glasses, as well as clothes, hats and dishes, in which it played a decorative role. If you look carefully, you can find it in Nigeria and Mozambique, Afghanistan and Pakistan, India and China, Norway and Russia, but for the best examples you have to go to Brazil.
