Day 2 of our Northern California Backcountry Discovery Route ADV bike adventure began in Bridgeport CA at the end of section 1. Thanks to some road closures on NorCal BDR sections 2 and 3, today required some highway bypasses and creative navigation. Fortunately, we ended up riding our adventure motorcycles through some of the most beautiful highway sections on and adjacent to the CABDR North.

Northern California BDR sections 2 and 3 flew by thanks to the bypasses (but we were still able to take on the gorgeous twisty road over Monitor Pass) and before we knew it we were on to the Historic Pony Express trail, then Uncle Tom's Cabin, before ending our day's riding at Hell Hole Reservoir and camping at Big Meadow Campground.

It was there that we discovered the ultimate motocamping fail. Ian's air mattress had been slashed sometime during the day and he ended up sleeping on the ground.
