When TIG welding aluminum, it can be hard to know when the puddle has been established. Learn how to address this and other common problems.
Unlike when welding steel, the puddle is often hard to see on aluminum, because both the metal and puddle are shiny and silver. Andy Weyenberg, Miller motorsports manager recommends making sure you have enough power into the piece and you see the puddle appear before adding your filler metal. If you add the filler metal too early, the filler metal will ball up on top of the aluminum piece. If the puddle becomes too wide, the aluminum will get overheated.
