Atanas Skatov was a Bulgarian mountaineer who lived a dedicated environmentally-friendly lifestyle. He was both a vegan and an agronomist specializing in plant protection. As the first Bulgarian and vegan to summit the Seven Summits, Atanas aimed to become the first known vegan to conquer all 14 8,000-meter peaks. He reached the top of 10 peaks, including climbing Mount Everest from both its north and south sides, before his passing during a winter K2 expedition.

Atanas was a multi-talented and passionate individual with several pursuits. He was a mountaineer, agronomist, entomologist, ecologist, author, speaker, teacher, and athlete. His love for agriculture led him to earn a Master's degree in Agricultural Science and Plant Protection, specializing in horticulture and phytomedicine.
