The BART legacy fleet signaled a new era of American public transit. A true space-age rapid transit system, the BART cars represented the possibilities for modern technology to solve traffic congestion and interurban travel demands for the coming decades and beyond. The sleek fiberglass cab, smooth lines, advanced technology, and comfortable interior of the cars were the gold standard for the new era of public transit. Through the decades, these cars were rebuilt, renumbered, and written off. This video is meant to provide the reader with a somewhat comprehensive history of BART’s original revenue railcars.
Clips taken from a couple old BART films - "A Matter of Pride" and "Transport for Tomorrow"
Song at the end is no other than "BART" by Ruby, 1977.
