August 22nd, 1985 - With 137 people on board, the crew of British Airtours Flight #28 is preparing to leave Manchester Airport to Corfu. Just as the plane is accelerating, a loud thud comes from outside the plane. The Captain and his First Officer abandon take off, close the throttles and apply the reverse thrust. Passengers notice that one of the engines has caught fire and thick, black smoke starts to seep into the cabin. 4 minutes later, 55 people are dead.
