Pillar 43 in Enclosure D at Göbekli Tepe is one of the most famous pieces of iconography belonging to the Pre-Pottery Neolithic. Over the years researchers from multiple disciplines have tried to decode the symbolism on this intriguing megalithic monument. Some of them have suggested that Pillar 43 depicts constellations as they looked around 13,000 years ago!
In their opinion the reason the ancients recorded this particular date at Göbekli Tepe around a millennium later, is because it commemorated a disastrous comet strike that initiated the Younger Dryas Period. A humanity changing event. In this video I look at the evidence as it was presented in the peer-reviewed journal Mediterranean Archaeology and Archaeometry and also discuss the counter-argument put forward by archaeologists who work at the site.
