"The profit we are supposed to have is not there anymore. We're suffering, even to get food is difficult. Our husbands are not working, we're the ones paying house rent and taking care of the home. We have three to four children, a bag of rice - we're buying it at 500 SLL ($0.04), five gallons of locally produced palm oil - we're buying at 320 SLL ($0.023), five gallons imported ground nut oil - we're buying at 500,000 SLL ($36). All the profits we're supposed to get from selling, we are not having that, now we're straining, even food we can't afford it. That's exactly why we're asking the government to reduce prices on all commodities. Now even 10,000 SLL ($0.72) is not enough for lunch for our children, initially we used to give them 5,000 ($0.36) but with the high cost of living standards, the government we're straining and the suffering is too much."

STORYLINE:
Anti-government protesters in Sierra Leone clashed with police in the streets of the capital on Wednesday, as tensions over the rising cost of living turned deadly in the West African nation.
In a national broadcast, Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh said that "lives of both policemen and civilians were lost," without giving further details.
He announced a nationwide curfew from 3pm local time in a bid to stem the violence.
The protesters on Wednesday were calling for the departure of President Julius Maada Bio, who was elected in 2018 and still has 10 months left in his term.
The demonstrators chanted "Bio must go" as they made their way through the capital, Freetown.
The government has criticised the unidentified organisers of the protest, warning that the country already has suffered enough through more than a decade of civil war that ended in 2002.
