In this video, Dr. Fullington addresses how gallbladder problems are diagnosed.
If a patient is having symptoms of gallbladder problems, the best place to start is to be evaluated by a doctor or other provider who will ask about the symptoms the patient is experiencing. The next best step to evaluate for gallbladder problems is an ultrasound of the right upper abdomen to look for gallstones, which are the most common cause of gallbladder dysfunction. If no gallstones are found on ultrasound but the symptoms sound like they are related to the gallbladder, a test called a HIDA scan can be performed to evaluate how well the gallbladder is squeezing. If the gallbladder is not functioning properly, this is called biliary dyskinesia.
Dr. Fullington is a specialist in the treatment of gallbladder disease and gallbladder surgery.
