(24 Sep 2016) Chinese Premier Li Keqiang arrived in the Cuban capital on Saturday on an official visit to the country designed to deepen commercial and political ties between the two countries, according to officials.
Li was greeted at Jose Marti International Airport by a large contingent of Cuban officials, including Vice-President Miguel Diaz-Canel.
The Chinese Premier then attended a wreath laying ceremony at the Monument to Jose Marti, the poet and Cuban national hero, overlooking the iconic Revolution Square in the centre of Havana.
Officials say the two countries signed several bilateral accords, including one for Chinese investment in tourism infrastructure projects and telecommunications.
China is Cuba's second largest trading partner, and Li's high level visit, which included meeting with Cuban President Raul Castro, is seen as an effort to boost investment in the island nation.
