Tresavean mine was one of Cornwalls leading copper mines. It was worked from 1815 to 1928 with the mine producing a vast total of 230,000 tons or Copper and 4,000 tons of tin.
In the final years it was open the workings reached a depth of 443 Fathoms, (thats 810 meters !) making it the second deepest mine in Cornwall behind Dolcoath.
Unfortunately, in the years after closeure, every building and structure on site was levelled and almost all the mine shafts capped.
Luckily 2 of the main shafts where filled with large bat castles with grill openings, which still provide access.
On the very top of the hill is one which reaches depths of over 100m but does not seem to lead into any workings.
In this video we descend what is known as Man Engine shaft, and we are able to explore some of the upper workings from here.
