On our sailing trip to the Red Sea we met a "fairytale animal", the dugong (Dugong dugon), also known as sea cow. The dugong is one of four living species which belongs to the Sirenia which also include three species of mantanees.
The dugong is living on the edge of extinction because it was hunted until the end of the 19th century.
The dugong is eating seagrass in the meadows of the bottom of the sea.
