Analysis and commentary of the 2027 Cellars, 2019 Falls Vineyard Cabernet Franc, VQA Vinemount Ridge, Niagara Peninsula, ON, Canada

2027 Cellars began as a virtual winery back in 2007. Kevin Panagapka is one of my favourite winemakers in Ontario, and he was one of the first to really focus on single vineyard expressions of the grape varieties that excel in Ontario, such as Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Riesling.

This 2019 is his inaugural expression of Cabernet Franc, and since then, he is now adding other single-vineyard Cabernet Francs to his range.

The Falls Vineyard is in the Vinemount Ridge VQA sub-appellation. This is one of the coolest sub-regions in the Niagara Peninsula, sitting atop the Niagara escarpment, it is a bit removed from the influence of Lake Ontario, and has the fewest number of growing degree days. The soils are a heavy, silty-clay.
