STORYLINE
More than 10,000 demonstrators gathered outside the US Embassy in Copenhagen on Wednesday to protest a visit to Denmark by President George W. Bush.
President Bush, en route to the Group of Eight summit in Scotland, stopped in Denmark on Tuesday and Wednesday to thank the government for its continued participation in the Iraq war and reconstruction effort.
The anti-Bush rally kicked off as Bush left for the summit following a 17-hour visit to Denmark.
Protesters said they were angry at Bush's foreign policies.
"We are a peace loving country and don't like his policies at all," one protester said.
Seven people were arrested for blocking traffic, but there was no violence, according to a police spokesman.
Organisers expected some 20,000 people to join the anti-Bush demonstration outside the embassy. But police, who had staged one of Denmark's biggest security operations for the Bush visit, said that about 10-12 thousand people showed up for the rally.
Protests began on Tuesday, hours before Bush arrived on his fourth trip to Europe this year.
Denmark's centre-right government is a staunch supporter of the Bush administration and has committed about 570 troops in Iraq, most involved in training Iraqi security forces based in the southern part of the country.
