UNIDO works hand-in-hand with governments and industries to phase-out ozone depleting substances (ODS) from major manufacturing sectors. But there are still countless stockpiles of ODS around the world, stored inside refrigerators, air-conditioners, aerosols and foams. When these are sent to landfill, the ODS slowly leaks into the atmosphere, causing serious harm to the ozone layer and contributing to climate change. UNIDO is working with Member states to build the infrastructure, technologies and technical capacities needed to safely collect, transport and destroy these substances. This is a key step to reversing the course of ozone depletion and safeguarding our planet.
