Targa New Zealand 2014. Day 3 of the event and the third time we had caught car 707 in a stage, the driver wouldn't let us pass. This was a few mins into a 30 min stage, he set off a minute ahead of us... Our car a Renault Megane had half the power of the Mustang GT350 so we could only catch him while braking and on corners, and, well, we tapped him mid corner when he braked heavily.. Admittedly I was going too fast and should have backed off but was seeing red that we had caught him yet again and he was going to cost us another decent stage time and a few minutes... The drivers actions after the stage where he physically assaulted both myself and my co driver (breaking his glasses and splitting his lip) cost him his motorsport licence for a year. Lesson. Seeding is key, don't enter poorly run events that have loose seeding and time control rules, we caught him in prologue/shakedown and then the next day in other stages, we were passing upto three cars on some stages... and don't let the red mist get the better of you, I should have backed off and sat behind him and lost the rally time.
