The third amendment in the Bill of Rights assures that private homeowners or occupants cannot be ordered to house and feed soldiers without their consent in times of peace, and without some kind of compensation in times of war. The British forced a lot of people to unwillingly house their soldiers without compensation during the Revolution. These people had to feed and house them at their own expense.
