Uganda: Parliament Debates President Museveni's Fitness For Office As He Turns 80 | Firstpost Africa
Earlier this week, Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni marked his 80th birthday. As the country marked the event with prayers and celebrations, the Ugandan parliament witnessed a heated debate over Museveni's age and fitness for office. Opposition MP Ibrahim SSemujju called for the President to undergo regular medical and physical tests to ensure he remains fit to run the country. His proposal was met with resistance in the Parliament. Opposition lawmaker Ssemujju also said that there was a need for Uganda to emulate the Democratic Party in the U.S., which asked President Joe Biden to not contest the 2024 election on account of old age.
