On the 15th August 2020 the Royal Airforce aerobatic team marked the 75th anniversary of VJ day, with a proposed series of flypasts around the four corners of UK including Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff and London. Due to poor weather and Low cloud most of the planned flypasts didn't happen. Prestwick airport in Ayrshire had been planned in for a fuel stop and an opportunity for VJ veterans to meet the display team members. On arrival at Prestwick the weather was glorious with warm temperatures (24/25 degrees) and blue skies, and those on the ground were treated to a mini display by the best the Royal Air force has to offer. After around 90 mins on the ground the team departed Prestwick headed for Belfast.
VJ day effectively marked the end of WW2 with the unconditional surrender of Japan and bringing to end a bloody 6 years of war.
The Royal Air force aerobatic display team also known as " the reds" draw their members from among the very best that the RAF has to offer. The team is currently based at RAF Scampton, Lincolnshire England, and was formed in late 1964. The team currently display using 9 Hawk T1A aircraft.
