Harry does not prevent Lord Voldemort from returning for the first time in the series. Instead, he arguably helps Voldemort return! When Harry restrained Lupin and Sirius from killing Pettigrew at the end of Prisioner of Azkaban, he made the first mistake that led to Voldemort regaining his body. Pettigrew escaped to find his master and set in motion the rebirth of the Dark Lord.
