Porsche is turning its existing range of high-end SUVs and sports cars into a powerful group of electrified vehicles. Porsche is set to introduce an all-electric 718 EV before retiring the gas-powered 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster electric model is said to come in hardtop and convertible versions.
WHAT'S NEW FOR 2025?
For the 2025 model year, Porsche is introducing the all-new 718 EV as their third electric vehicle, hot on the heels of the recently launched all-electric Macan.
In 2023, during a meeting with the media, Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche, announced that the company's upcoming all-electric sports car will eventually replace the gasoline-powered 718 Cayman and Boxster models.
While the 718 Cayman and Boxster will still be available for purchase for the next two years, they will eventually be phased out in favor of the new electric model.
DESIGN
The recent models have abandoned the bulk of the concealing elements seen on their predecessors, showcasing features like active front shutters and exposed tail light strips.
Some of the prototypes have a deceptive exhaust vent designed to deceive observers, and it seems that there could be a functional rear wing positioned at the front edge of the rear deck.
PERFORMANCE, RANGE & CHARGING
The electric 718 will reportedly feature a cutting-edge, lightweight platform specifically designed for sports cars, to optimize its overall weight and performance.
Anticipate that a rear-motor-only model will be offered as the base 718 EV, with an all-electric GTS counterpart expected to feature all-wheel drive for improved traction and quicker acceleration.
The 718 EV is expected to have a minimum driving range of 250 miles and is anticipated to utilize a comparable 800-volt system that enables the Tycon to fast-charge at speeds reaching 270 kiloWatthours.
PRICE & RELEASE DATE
The 2025 Porsche 718 EV is anticipated to have a starting price of approximately $78,000, with the potential to reach upwards of $105,000 based on the trim level and additional features. Its launch is expected to take place sometime during 2025.
