The Volkswagen Touareg is a mid-size luxury crossover SUV produced by German automaker Volkswagen since 2002 at the Volkswagen Bratislava Plant. The vehicle was named after the nomadic Tuareg people, inhabitants of the Saharan interior in North Africa.

The third generation Touareg will use the Volkswagen Group MLB platform like its corporate siblings, the Porsche Cayenne and Audi Q7. The third generation Touareg will emphasize fuel efficiency and will reportedly be significantly lighter than the first two generations. VW has discontinued the Touareg for sale in the US after the 2017 model year onward, based on sales, and on the availability of the larger and less expensive Atlas model which was specifically designed for the US market.
