Volunteers have set up a soup kitchen and are delivering free meals to Covid-19 patients who have been forced to self-isolate in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta. As case numbers soar in the country, many hospitals are overloaded, forcing some coronavirus patients to wait for treatment or do their best to recover while self-isolating at home. The world’s fourth-most populous country has become an epicentre of the pandemic in Asia, which is being fuelled by the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant. On July 15, 2021, Indonesia recorded 56,757 coronavirus cases in a single day, surpassing the daily toll of 41,806 seen in India.
