Since 2004, the Valdai International Discussion Club Annual Conference has mapped the emergence of the multipolar world order, as well as contributed to the charting of its course. This year’s 21st conference, marked two decades of its work. The major theme of the conference was what would constitute the basis of lasting peace in the world, one that gave all countries equal opportunity for development while that of the annual report presented to the conference was the construction of the architecture of the new Eurasian order, its institutions, its trade and its international relations.
On the second day of the conference, 5 November 2024, as US citizens were still voting on the elections that were bound to have a major impact on the course of the world no matter the outcome, veteran Russia scholar. Richard Sakwa, prolific writer on matters Eurasian, Glenn Diesen, Valdai Program Coordinator, Oleg Barabanov and originator of geopolitical economy, Radhika Desai, decided to record their thoughts about the conference, its discussions of both Eurasian developments and, inevitably given its importance for the world, of world developments.
