This is my second tribute video to Gary Cooper the amazing guitar player with the 'Hurricane Band', Roots Bamboo, Negril, Jamaica for so many years who passed away suddenly on October 21, 2022. R.I.P. Gary Cooper!
Here is my tribute to you my friend:
Gary and I first met at the beginning of the 2000’s…I thought his song selection and guitar playing was exceptional and I loved The Hurricane Band…the House-band for Roots Bamboo’s ‘live shows’.
Gary and Frank ‘Blazin’ Aird were my two number 1 favourites and their talent and showmanship inspired me back in 2005 to start video taping these guys and the amazing music happening in Negril at the time and I haven’t stopped since. So to see Gary leave now… makes me feel so sad…it’s way to soon, way to soon…I had not seen Gary around Negril these past few years so I reached out to a few people to find out where and what he was up to and discovered he was at home...safe…with his family.
I was hoping to see him again…So I'm going to post some videos of him…I think it will help me get over the shock and the emptiness I feel about his loss and the Negril music scene's loss…
(I apologize for poor video quality - wished i’d bought a new camera earlier)
Also, in this video: Sister Doreen, Otis Gayle, Frank Aird, Banga, Marlando Gold and Iratio...That's a lot of history performing this song at that time in 2013. It's a laugh...it's chaotic...it's raw to the core...and it's wonderful and happy!
