After 9 long months of pregnancy, most women are eager to jump back into their old fitness routine to get their pre-pregnancy body back. However, after your delivery, you are told to get good rest for 6-8 weeks - here is the reason for that
Your placenta has an average diameter of 21-22cm that implants on your uterine wall. Once you birth the placenta you are left with a large wound.
If we saw this wound on the outside we would be in bed resting, we would have people doing everything for us, no one would let you over do it. Yet when you give birth it’s expected of you to rest but also still manage everything else.
Lets be honest this actually leaves little time to rest.
It takes on average 4-6 weeks for this wound to fully heal. During this time your bleeding, your feeling sore and things feel really different. Not only have you given birth to your baby, but you have also birthed an organ.
Your body is amazing at healing but it also needs your help to
🔸️Nourish
🔸️Rest
🔸️Support
When these three things are set up, women may experience a quicker healing time and feel better much faster.
Even if your birth was straight forward, this wound like all wounds can reopen, bleed and be susceptible to infection when your overdoing it or not prioritising rest and recovery.
Your body is doing so much during this healing time.
Do yourself a favour and REST!
