Today we invite you for a wonderful walking tour in Ayia Napa Cyprus.
Ayia Napa is one of the most popular and lively resorts in Cyprus with an amazing history. The name, which is translated as "Sacred Forests", was given to the city in honor of the shrine once found here. Presumably in the 7th-8th centuries AD. e. in a cave in the middle of dense thickets, the Byzantines hid the face of the Most Holy Theotokos. Hundreds of years later, a random traveler found the icon, the news of this spread around the district, and believers began to flock to the cave.
The icon and the area began to be called "Panagia Napa" (Holy Mother of God from the forest), and eventually simply Ayia Napa. Later, a chapel was erected over the cave, and then a temple. Today it is the monastery of Ayia Napa, preserved almost in its original form.
The city became a tourist city in the 80s, it developed rapidly, attracting tourists with its heavenly beaches and water activities. Ayia Napa is ideal for outdoor activities. The city is also famous for its lively nightlife, it is even called the "second Ibiza" because of the large number of bars, discos and clubs.
