In this talk, the Royal Institute of British Architects explores one of the most important regeneration projects of the 21st century, the new Battersea Power Station, originally designed in the 1930s by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott on the south bank of the River Thames.
This is a recording of a live event held at 66 Portland Place in London, on 20 April 2023.
A keynote lecture by lead architect Sebastien Ricard at WilkinsonEyre will trace the origins of the decade long project, outlining the architectural approaches to a scheme that is delivering a long term, sustainable vision for the 42 acre site. The lecture will outline the research and design processes involved, and discuss the ambition needed to create rewarding public and commercial spaces for the broad range of users that will occupy them.
After the lecture Sebastien will be joined in conversation by writer and journalist Helen Barrett to discuss the wider cultural, social and economic significance of the site within the modern history of London, followed by an audience Q&A.
