This video was recorded onboard "the old tub": CARNIVAL Cruise-Ship 'PARADISE', in the Pacific Ocean somewhere between Ensenada, Mexico & Long Beach, California. However, the the audio of this same song ('Volcano') which I've released both as a 'Single', as well as included on my Album 'Through the Caribbean & South Pacific', was actually recorded amongst the Volcanic Islands of French Polynesia.

The lack of passengers in this video is due to the ridiculous time of day when it was recorded. Somehow, the Ship's Musical Director agreed with the Cruise Director's request for me to play a “short set” by the pool-side on the ship's top ('Lido') deck from 10:00am until 12:00 noon. Now, it's highly irregular for me to perform in the MORNING time (on ANY morning), especially after performing the prior evening & also having to perform again that same evening as well (twice in one day, & 3 times within a 24 hour period). Well, as you can imagine, the vast majority of the ship’s passengers were still easing into their holiday routine at that time of the day, and not overly excited to shake-off their hangovers at such unreasonable hours.

Another fine example of my time onboard the CARNIVAL ‘Paradise’ was being scheduled to perform during a 3-day ‘Booze Cruise’ through the American NFL (National Football League) ‘Superbowl’ weekend (Friday through Sunday). That chaotic weekend included some very aggressive passengers being detained in the ship’s ‘Holding Cell’ (yes indeed: EVERY ship has one for Emergency / Security situations), before (quietly & discretely) being transferred off the ship onto a Coast Guard Tender Boat in the middle of the night, while we were cruising just off the coast, very near the border between California & Mexico.

Then, that same weekend culminated in a Team of DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) Officers (together with their search-dogs) waiting to greet the ship as we arrived into our home port of Long Beach, California on Monday morning. Clearly, they had been notified about that particular Cruise being completely out of control, and NOBODY was allowed off the ship until the DEA had completed their search & permission was granted.

I could tell you MANY other reasons why I only ever accepted & completed one (1) single 6-month contract working for 'Carnival Cruise Line', which was MORE than enough for me. Never again! The only saving grace was the fine friends I made along the way. A massive 'THANK YOU' to all who helped me limp my way through to the end of that contract. By the end of that gig, I was very ill & needed some serious time-off for recovery. I also changed Booking-Agents & moved onto much better conditions for each of my future contracts. Whew!
