(9 Jun 2015) Nearly one week after Indonesia raised the alert status of Sinabung volcano in western Indonesia to the highest level, activity at the volcano remains high, according to the national disaster management agency.
The volcano emitted several bursts of hot ash on Tuesday morning.
In nearby Sibintun village, one of the villages in the danger zone, houses stand empty as hundreds of residents were last week evacuated due to the volcano's increased activity.
Residents living within a radius of 7 kilometres (4 miles) south and southeast of the crater were taken to the town of Kabanjahe.
The 2,600-metre (8,530-foot) -high volcano in North Sumatra province has sporadically erupted since September 2013 after being dormant for three years.
Mount Sinabung is among more than 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which is located on the Pacific "Ring of Fire".
