This win came amid concerns of cross-voting and resort politics. The successful Congress candidates were Ajay Markand, Nasir Hussain, and G. C. Chandrasekhar. Despite fears of cross-voting by Congress MLAs and a last-minute joint candidate fielded by BJP and JDS, the Congress managed to maintain its stronghold.
