"Namak Haraam" (1973) is a Hindi drama film directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and written by Gulzar. Rajesh Khanna as Somnath "Somu" Chander Singh, Amitabh Bachchan as Vikram "Vicky" Maharaj, Rekha as Shyama, Simi Garewal as Manisha, Asrani as Dhondu (Shyama's brother), A. K. Hangal as Bipinlal Pandey, Om Shivpuri as Damodar Maharaj, Durga Khote as Somu's mother, Raza Murad as Alam, Jayshree T. as Courtesan.

The story revolves around the friendship and conflict between two childhood friends, Somu (played by Rajesh Khanna) and Vicky (played by Amitabh Bachchan). Somu is a poor lawyer living with his widowed mother and unmarried sister, while Vicky is a wealthy industrialist who inherits his father's mill. When Vicky's father falls ill, Vicky asks Somu to join him in Bombay and work as a manager in his mill. However, Somu decides to work as a worker instead, to understand the workers' problems and help them. This leads to a confrontation between the two friends as their ideologies clash.

The film's music was composed by R. D. Burman, with lyrics by Anand Bakshi. Some memorable songs from the movie include "Diye Jalte Hain Phool Khilte Hain" and "Nadiya Se Dariya Dariya Se Saagar" sung by Kishore Kumar.
