Simone Biles Says She Doesn’t Plan to Compete in 2028 Olympics Because ‘There’s Almost Nothing Left to Do’
Hello Viewers, Welcome Back to SSN24!
Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, has hinted that her Olympic journey might be over. In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, where she was named 2024 Sportsperson of the Year, Biles reflected on her remarkable rebound from the 2020 Tokyo Games and her record-breaking performance in Paris.
When asked about competing in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, the seven-time Olympic gold medalist said it would feel “greedy.” Biles explained, “I’ve accomplished so much, there’s almost nothing left to do. I’m humble enough to know when to be done.”
At 31 years old in 2028, Biles would need to consider sacrifices, including delaying her plans for starting a family with her husband, NFL player Jonathan Owens. She acknowledged the challenges of balancing personal and professional life, saying, “What’s really worth it?”
Since her historic performance in Paris, Biles embarked on her 32-show “Gold Over America Tour,” sharing her talents nationwide. Despite her success, the 27-year-old admitted she hasn’t fully grasped her impact on gymnastics, especially as a trailblazing Black athlete. This year, seven of the 15 women at the U.S. Olympic Trials were Black, inspired by her legacy.
Biles also highlighted her journey in a Netflix docuseries documenting her preparation for Paris. Reflecting on her achievements, she said, “I don’t think I’ll realize the full magnitude until I retire and look back in a couple years.”
The 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will mark the first Summer Games in the U.S. since Atlanta 1996. If Biles were to compete, she would be the only American gymnast to qualify for four Olympics. However, her focus remains on her remarkable career and future aspirations beyond gymnastics.
