Education minister Nick Gibb has insisted it is "safe" for children in England to return to school in September, adding that it is "not necessary" for pupils to wear masks in the classroom.
It's also been revealed local authorities can fine parents £120 - cut to £60 if paid within 21 days - over a child's absence from school, with the threat of prosecution if they fail to pay.
However unions have warned that deploying fines risks damaging the relationship between parents and teachers at a critical juncture
