The Bush administration is embracing a call to tackle global warming. The summit in Japan is formally urging major polluting countries to consider the goal of cutting heat-trapping pollution by half by mid-century. The White House is downplaying the latest announcement by the Iraqi Prime Minister -- calling for the withdrawal of U-S troops from Iraq. Nouri al-Maliki says the withdrawal would be based on Iraqi forces being able to secure the country. The White House says it doesn't believe this latest proposal sets a rigid timeline for U-S troop withdrawal. Residents in Big Sur California remain under a mandatory evacuation. Firefighters say it will probably be another two weeks until the fires in that area are fully contained. A fire in Santa Barbara is now 35 percent contained -- allowing some two thousands residents back in their home. Hurricane Bertha is now a category three storm. But there is good news. Forecasters expect the first hurricane of the Atlantic storm season to weaken in the next couple of days. Bertha is expected to continue to head northward towards Bermuda ...
