A hundred and one million of India’s population are living with diabetes. That’s according to estimates in a new study published in Lancet.
A survey commissioned by the health ministry also found that 136 million people - or could be living with pre-diabetes in the country.
Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of the condition.
People have high blood sugar because they are unable to make enough insulin, which is a hormone, or respond to it properly.
