Imagine you go to a doctor, who advises you to avoid oil. Does that mean he has asked you to stop drinking oil? Of course not! He’s merely asked you to avoid eating oily foods.
So, what does this story have to do with a homa? Well, #homa or yajna is one of the most misunderstood concepts in Hinduism. In a typical #homam, a priest pours highly nutritious ghee into a sacred fire as a sacrificial offering. Shri Datta Swami, however, condemns this blind, #ritualistic approach that only adds to air pollution, and instead provides a perfectly logical take on the real meaning of a homa.
Just as the doctor—who advises the patient to avoid oil—refers to oily foods, the Veda refers to ghee as a ghee-rich food and fire as the hunger-fire burning in the belly of a #devotee or a #Satguru.
In fact, the first hymn of the #Rig Veda says that the fire in a sacrifice is both the offerer (Hotā) of ghee (food) as well as the receiver (Havanīya) of the same ghee (food)—Agnimīḷe.. Hotāram..’ The ignorant priests of today have completely missed the deep symbolism behind the homa and treat it in a ritualistic fashion that only results in more pollution.
In this myth-busting video, Shri #Datta Swami not only sheds light on the true meaning of homa or #yajna but also provides proof points from the #Veda and the divine life of Lord #Krishna to validate His argument. Watch the video now!
