Chemical fertilisers can be harmful to our #soil and environment. Digestate from #biogas plants can be used as an alternative #organicfertiliser. However, #digestate contains a ratio of 90 % water and only 10 % nutrients. So, in order to supply the fields with sufficient #nutrients, large amounts have to be spread and transported back and forth.
In this film we visit Italy. Here there are over 1600 biogas plants, a huge potential for organic #fertiliser use, but also a lot of transport, which in turn is not so environmentally friendly. We present a new approach of the European research project NOMAD, which has developed a mobile solution for decentralised biogas plants to convert digestate into high quality organic #biofertiliser, reducing the volume of digestate by nutrient concentration, so that 20,000 litres of digestate could be converted to 50 kg of organic fertiliser.
The biofertiliser produced by the project will then be tested in growth trials on lettuce.
