High Court judge Esta Nambayo has directed the lawyers from the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council and those of Businessman Hassan Basajjalaba to file written submissions to the court before proceedings can continue. This follows an earlier order by the principal Judge Flavian Zeija to the registrar of civil division to have the case file forwarded to the High Court to address complaints of alleged abuse of office raised in the Mengo magistrates Court.
The case stems from a court order halting all the activities of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council until the main lawsuit is resolved. The main lawsuit relates to Hassan Bassajabalaba challenging the mufti's alleged abuse of office. However, the UMSC now contends that the Mengo Magistrates' court did not take into account the work of the council and wants court to reverse this order. #NTVNews #NTVTonight #NTVWeekendEdition
