Welcome. Today we are back in The Netherlands to join the police officers from team traffic The Hague. Today's mission is a special one as we tag along for a VIP escort from the Ministry of Justice and Security in downtown The Hague to the Police Training Center located further east. We'll be navigating through traffic for about 11 kilometers. These kind of escorts differ from the emergency escorts. At intersections other traffic is forced to keep moving to ensure a clear path for the escort. One officer closes the convoy as tail driver and prevents other cars from taking over while the convoy itself remains just below the speed limit creating a traffic free space to move in.
The escorted VIP vehicles keep a slow but steady pace, giving the officers in front enough time to take control of every upcoming intersection. Meanwhile the officer closing the convoy prevents other drivers from overtaking.
While one of the officers blocks the intersection the next one positions himself in front of the citybus that is about to pull away from the bus station.
Every small intersection or side road needs to be accounted for giving the two officers in front a challenging job from time to time. They need to rush in front of the convoy to ensure that no other road users disrupt the escort.
