The 2,000-year-old city of Xichang in southwest China's Sichuan Province, also known as the "City of moon", will be the site of the 2021 Mid-Autumn Festival gala on September 21, according to the China Media Group (CMG) gala producer.
This year's Mid-Autumn Festival gala will be held at the Xingyuehu Wetland Park in Xichang. "The Big Dipper" will be taken as the theme image of this year's stage vision, the design of "seven stars with the moon" will be presented on the stage for global audiences.
With the help of China's own global navigation system of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS), which is also one of four global navigation satellite systems in the world, CMG will present an innovative and amazing panoramic stage with a sense of future for people to enjoy the gala around the world.
At present, the gala program, stage design plan and other preliminary preparation have been completed. The preparation of the gala has entered into the implementation phrase. The procedures of inviting guests and artists and conducting rehearsal are being conducted in an orderly way in strict accordance with the requirements of epidemic prevention and control.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a harvest festival celebrated by Chinese people. The festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese lunar calendar, on the night of the full moon between early September to early October of the Gregorian calendar.
On the day, people have the tradition of eating mooncakes and appreciating the full moon.
China's mainland listed the festival as an "intangible cultural heritage" in 2006 and a public holiday in 2008.

今年的中秋晚會將在西昌星月湖濕地公園舉行。本屆舞台視覺將以“北斗七星”為主題形象，將“七星連月”的設計呈現在全球觀眾的舞台上。
借助中國自己的全球導航系統北斗衛星導航系統（BDS），它也是世界四大全球導航衛星系統之一，CMG將呈現一個創新的、令人驚嘆的、充滿未來感的全景舞台，讓世界各地的人們盡享盛會。
目前，聯歡晚會節目、舞台設計方案等前期準備工作已完成。晚會籌備工作已進入實施階段。邀請嘉賓、藝人、彩排等程序正在嚴格按照疫情防控要求有條不紊地進行。
中秋節是中國人慶祝豐收的節日。該節日在中國農曆八月十五日，即公曆九月初至十月初的滿月之夜舉行。
在這一天，人們有吃月餅、賞月的傳統。
中國大陸於2006年將該節日列為“非物質文化遺產”，並於2008年列為公眾假期。
