Janakpur Bolts clinched the title of the inaugural edition of the Nepal Premier League T20 cricket tournament, defeating the tournament's strongest team, Sudurpaschim Royals, by 5 wickets.
In the final match held on Saturday at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Sudurpaschim, who batted first after winning the toss, set a massive target of 185 runs. Janakpur successfully chased the target with 4 balls to spare, losing 5 wickets.
Janakpur's victory was anchored by Sri Lankan-origin American player Lahiru Milantha, who played a heroic innings of 87 runs. Milantha, who led Janakpur to the inaugural NPL 2024 title, was also named Player of the Match. Similarly, captain Aasif Sheikh contributed 33 runs, while Harsh Thaker played an unbeaten knock to guide the team to victory. Sudurpaschim's bowlers failed to make a significant impact in the final, costing them the title.
In batting, Sudurpaschim's American opener Saif Jeb played a remarkable innings of 69 runs, while Binod Bhandari added an important 41 runs for the team. Despite these efforts, Sudurpaschim fell short and lost the match.
